What to do during a power outage
What to do during a power outage – emergency guide
A power outage can happen unexpectedly. Severe weather, technical failures or other emergencies may cause electricity to stop working for several hours or even days. That is why it is useful to be prepared for such situations.
Stay calm and check the situation
If the electricity goes out, the most important thing is to stay calm. First check whether the outage only affects your home or if your neighbors are also without power. If the entire building or street has no electricity, it is likely a wider power outage.
Light and basic equipment
During a power outage, flashlights or battery-powered lamps are very useful. Candles can also be used, but they should always be placed safely. It is also helpful to keep a power bank ready for charging your mobile phone.
Emergency food supply
During a longer power outage it may be difficult to buy or prepare food. For this reason it is recommended to keep a small supply of long-lasting food at home. Suitable foods include:
- energy bars or emergency ration bars
- canned food
- dried fruit or nuts
- drinking water
These foods should have a long shelf life and be ready to eat without cooking.
Emergency energy food
For emergency situations there are special foods designed for long-term storage. One example is High Energy Bar, an energy food suitable for travel, outdoor activities and emergency supplies. These products are ready to eat and provide quick energy.
Additional preparation
Besides food, it is also useful to keep several other items ready:
- drinking water
- flashlight
- spare batteries
- power bank
- basic first aid kit
Being prepared can make dealing with a power outage much easier and safer.
